Abstract
Abstract: We report on IRAS observations of a portion of the RCrA molecular cloud. The observations show IR emission coinciding with an area of low optical extinction. The 60–100 μm color temperature of this dust is 21 K. The 12–25 Jim color temperature is however 400 K. The emission of this warm dust extends over an area of 0.3 square degrees. This high temperature can not be explained by normal equilibrium processes. The only available heating source, the Inter Stellar Radiation Field (ISRF), can heat the dust to about 20 K. The observations imply the existence of very small grains, which are heated by single photon absorptions.
